Petaling Jaya, Sept 8 — Malaysia’s largest bank, Maybank, faced a sudden system outage earlier today, leaving thousands of users unable to perform basic banking transactions. The disruption triggered widespread frustration on social media as customers scrambled to access their funds.

According to Maybank’s official response, key functions on the Mae app have been restored. However, some services remain temporarily unavailable. The bank advised customers to switch to the Maybank2u website and use SMS TAC (Transaction Authorization Code) to complete transactions.

“Our technical team is working urgently to fully restore the system. We sincerely thank our customers for their patience and understanding,” Maybank said in a statement posted online.

Maybank Scrambling to Fix the Issue

This incident comes at a time when digital banking reliability is more crucial than ever, with millions relying on mobile apps and online services for daily financial transactions. Maybank has yet to disclose the root cause of the outage or provide an estimated time for full system recovery.

While temporary workarounds via the website and SMS TAC are available, customers continue to demand transparency and swift resolution.

What to Do If You’re Affected

If you’ve been impacted by the outage, here are a few steps to take:

  • Check the Maybank2u website for real-time access to your accounts.
  • Use SMS TAC for transactions that fail on the Mae app.
  • Document failed transactions with screenshots for later follow-up.
  • Avoid repeating failed transfers, which could lead to double charges.
  • Follow Maybank’s official channels for updates.
