📄 What Is the Amaran Scam PDF?

The Amaran Scam PDF is an educational eBook published by Bank Negara Malaysia in December 2024. It highlights the latest financial scams in Malaysia, how they work, the red flags to watch for, and what to do if you’ve been scammed.

This initiative is part of BNM’s financial literacy and fraud prevention campaign.

🔎 Scam Types Covered in the PDF

Here’s a breakdown of the major scams discussed in the PDF:

1. 🧢 Fake Investment Schemes

Scammers promise guaranteed profits and use:

  • Religious manipulation
  • Fake licenses or approvals
  • Fake endorsements or logos from authorities
  • High-pressure tactics (“Limited time only!”)

🔗 Check if the company is legit:

2. 💱 Illegal Forex Trading

Any foreign exchange (forex) investment must be done through licensed institutions only. If someone asks you to deposit money into a personal account or join a “free forex course,” it’s likely a scam.

3. 🏦 Mule Accounts (Akaun Keldai)

This scam targets victims to rent out their bank accounts, often in exchange for money. If your account is used in illegal activities, you can be charged, blacklisted, and banned from holding bank accounts.

4. 🐞 APK Malware and Fake App Downloads

Scammers trick users into downloading .apk files disguised as:

  • Wedding invitations
  • Delivery notices
  • Job applications

Once installed, these apps steal your data and control your phone.

5. 💼 Fake Job Offers

Offers that promise:

  • High salary
  • No interview
  • Immediate approval

Victims are asked to transfer money or share personal banking info. These scams often turn victims into mule account holders unknowingly.

6. 💸 Non-Existent Loans

Scammers impersonate licensed lenders and demand:

  • Upfront “processing fees”
  • Insurance or tax fees
  • Your ATM card or banking credentials

They claim “blacklisted borrowers are welcome” or offer “approval within 24 hours.”

✅ Only apply loans through:

7. 🤝 Fake Debt Settlement Agents

They promise to “clear your CCRIS record” or “settle all your loans in 24 hours.” Many use influencers or fake authority to gain trust. Victims are pressured to take more loans or pay unnecessary fees.

🛡️ How to Protect Yourself (From the PDF)

✅ DO:

  • Verify every offer before investing or applying for loans.
  • Only deal with licensed institutions.
  • Change your banking passwords regularly.
  • Install antivirus and remove suspicious apps.
  • Use Semak Mule to check suspicious accounts.

❌ DON’T:

  • Never share your bank account or ATM card with strangers.
  • Don’t click suspicious links.
  • Don’t download apps outside of official app stores.
  • Don’t transfer money without checking legitimacy.
